We Are so Different that We Are the Same.

North America Group.
Week 6: “Discrimination: How to fight it?”

We Are so Different that We Are the Same.

Everyone is different and special in their very own way. We are of different colors, sizes; we speak different languages and have different beliefs. And you know? That’s awesome! We have a lot to give to the world, and we don’t have to be ashamed of that. Every culture is an avalanche of traditions and values that can be of great help to everyone in the world, but how can that be if we just see the differences between us? Discrimination is a problem that has existed since the start of the human race; slavery, wars and persecution, just to mention some, are problems that our society has always faced.

The Global Echoes is a group that is totally against this. Like the slogan says, “7 continents, 7 voices, 1 world”, we have our own special voices, our own different colors, but when we put them together, we can make big changes. We have to let go of the stereotypes and join forces to make this world something much better.

We say we are part of a civilized world, but then, why do we have to take off value from one another because of their skin color or language? Like Dr. Seuss said, “A person is a person, it doesn’t matter how small.” We have to fight to let go of this stupid and silent war we are having against other people. We can live in peace only if we are tolerant of the differences we have, and more importantly, appreciate them and focus more of our attention on the things we have in common.

Throughout all of history we can see great people of every nation who had discovered and made extraordinary things that definitely change the way we live even today. There is a great potential that everyone can offer the world. So, why do we have to shut it down? We should leave behind our prejudgments we have made about other people and start to be more like supportive friends.

Discrimination is another way of taking away the life of another person. Today is the day to end this. It’s time to return the voice to the ones who have lost it. It’s time to bring a lot of people to life again. Let’s make a change now. Let’s make the different voices one. We have to unify this world and make it work.
