The Right of the Life.

Europe Group.
Week 5: "Euthanasia: Is it moral decide about our death?”

The Right of the Life.

Quevedo, an old Spanish writer said “Mejor vida es morir, que vivir muerto.” In English means something as “Die is a better life, than living dead”

As we know, there are countries or states where euthanasia is legalized but they are a minority, why euthanasia is seen as a bad thing? Why isn’t it a right for people? Terminal diseases, high levels of disabilities or prolonged unconsciousness (being in coma for a long time for example) are examples of some of euthanasia reasons. Are they enough strong to support the idea of euthanasia?

We have such a recent case, Brittany Maynard one. He had a terminal head cancer which at the end of the cycle was going to make her have a painful death. She had to move to another country in order to get the pills which were going to make her, die without any pain. In that point I think we should be allowed to make with our life what we want when we are in a terminal situation as a heavy cancer or when we know we will have a painful death and as AndrĂ© Maldrux said “ Death isn’t such a serious thing, pain is”

About high levels of disabilities as being quadriplegic, I’m sure that not everyone will agree with me, but from my point of view a person with that “problem” should decide its destiny. You need someone to take care of you: always, your whole life. I have never been in that situation and I hope not to be ever and also I don’t wish it to anyone. Also the one who has to take care of that person, lose part of its freedom. Being prostrate in a wheelchair or a bed isn’t a life.

And here we get to the most discussed point: Who has the power of death when someone gets in a prolonged coma? I know that relatives to the person in coma, will always have that hope but when we know that if that person wakes up will be mentally damaged or that probably will never wake up there should appear the euthanasia concept. Each case is different but reached a point, euthanasia should be a possibility.

In summary Euthanasia should be a right for people. There are moments, there are diseases, there are situations which must be such important reasons as to let people decide whether they continue living or not. It isn’t fair living dead or dying painfully if you can prevent it from happening, it isn’t fair to condition life of people if you aren’t even able to eat by yourself.
